Telephone

On march 10, 1876 the telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. The telephone is a device that transmits sound waves through electricity. It easily surpassed the telegraph and quickly became a regularly used household item.
Light Bulb

On October 21, 1879 Thomas Edison created the light bulb. It is considered one of the most important inventions in history. It took 14 months to complete when Edison said it would only take 4 or 5. The lightbulb he created used a carbonized filament that only lasted about 40 hours total.
Railroads

During the Gilded Age, railroads improved greatly and because a main source of travel. The trains could move faster, and were safer. The prices to ride them were also decreased due to competition between rail companies.
